All about Houndmouth, the band ... and the beer.

The true identity of Working Title, the ale we previewed recently on the hand pull at Bank Street Brewhouse, now can be revealed: It is to be called Houndmouth, a hopped-up American Wheat Ale brewed in collaboration with the New Albany band of the same name.

But please note that Houndmouth isn't just any other band, and the beer we've brewed together isn't just another wheat -- as those of you who've heard the music, and tasted the cask-conditioned version, will quickly attest.

Houndmouth

ABV: 4.5%
IBU: 28

Malts: 50% white wheat, 50% Irish stout malt and a touch of Weyermann Carabelge.

Hops: CTZ and Cascade (dry-hopped)

Yeast: House Ale

Houndmouth just returned stateside from the band's first-ever European dates, and if you're unfamiliar with the music, listen at YouTube and then buy the EP on Rough Trade Records.

This Saturday night (March 2) at 9:00 p.m., the members of Houndmouth will be at Bank Street Brewhouse to taste the beer. You are invited to do the same.

Looking ahead to April 26, Houndmouth will open the Iroquois Amphitheater's 2013 season with a headlining show, backed by Joe Pug and Ranger. Seeing as NABC continues trying to get craft beer into Iroquois ... and the virtues of New Albany-brewed Houndmouth accompanying Houndmouth from New Albany make perfect sense ... maybe we'll get lucky.

Steve "Insider Louisville" Coomes on Gravity Head.

Thanks to Steve Coomes for a fine write-up on Gravity Head at Insider Louisville.  I vaguely recall being interviewed by him some time last Friday morning.

Contrary to its name, Gravity Head is an uplifting experience for serious beer geeks

“Since we’re drinking beer at 8:30 in the morning, does that make us alcoholics?” a friend asks only half sarcastically. “I can’t say I’ve done this — on purpose, anyway — in a long time.”

Me, either, I tell him, save for last year’s Gravity Head kickoff at the NABC Pizzeria and Public House in New Albany.

That marked the first time in decades I drank beer so early, the first time ever that it was actually good beer, not to mention, consumed under civil circumstances. (That short-on-civility event was the Talledega 500 NASCAR race in 1987. Just use your imagination) ...

Thunder Over Louisville with Against the Grain.

Thunder Over Louisville isn't my style, but Against the Grain definitely is, and so in honor of AtG's genuinely interesting Thunder Package, kindly permit this announcement of their intent.

As for me, I'll be in Indianapolis. By the way, Thunder Over Louisville is on April 20.

Final note: Nine unnecessary exclamation marks were surgically removed!

Bonfire of the Valkyries arrives on Tuesday, February 26, at NABC's two New Albany locations.

The annual seasonal release of NABC's Bonfire of the Valkyries is Tuesday, February 26, when it will be on tap at Bank Street Brewhouse and the Pizzeria & Public House. As with Solidarity Baltic Porter before it, 22-oz bomber availability for Bonfire in 2013 will be limited to the two NABC locations. A small amount of draft probably will be available for outside accounts.

Bonfire of the Valkyries
Imperial Smoked Black Lager
ABV: 8% … IBU: 10

Color: Dark brown/black.

Flavor: Full bodied, with strong, clean dark lager malt character and ample smokiness.

Compare to: Bonfire is an utterly unique Imperial Smoked Black Lager, but it compares with Smoked Porters from Alaskan, Stone, etc.

Gravity Head 2013 lineupdate page ... what's tapped?

Updated for opening on Tuesday, April 16. This is the final update for 2013. Gravity Head has ended, but the listed beer will continue to pour (on fewer allotted taps) until they're gone. Check here for updates (scroll right).

The annual journey known as Gravity Head continues. We're still updating this posting as a current lineupdate reference, so plan on returning here.

Upon closer examination, we actually began with 63 kegs, not 62. Math never was my strong suit.

Remember that 2013 programs are u-print only (here). For quicker news of depletions and tappings, follow @nabcnews on Twitter, or visit the NABC Facebook page.

Gravity Head 2013: Marathon begins, finish line somewhere over that horizon.

It was a fairly typical Gravity Head opening day, with six kegs cashed, and I cannot thank you enough for attending. Also, requisite kudos to all NABC staff members, without whom Gravity Head cannot exist.

Remember that 2013 programs are u-print only (here); also, no beers from Founders, Flat12 or NABC will be tapped until their featured day on Friday, March 8. Finally, for Saturday, the keg of 180 Shilling Scotch Ale from Big Dawg will be tapped upon arrival. Other replacement kegs are queued, and only Eric knows for sure what's to come.

Here is the first of my periodic lineupdates.
